Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw is the Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning & Transport on Bradford Council, with a brief that also covers Housing and Asset Management. Prior to this he worked in the private sector in utilities, combining this with his role as a ward Councillor for Windhill & Wrose in Shipley.
As Portfolio Holder, Alex has led on the Council’s campaign (www.nextstopbradford.com) to secure a city centre stop on the proposed high-speed Northern Powerhouse Rail line in Bradford, which has garnered support from the Leeds City Region and the business community. This would provide a £1bn boost to the local economy, attracting significant inward investment and helping create thousands of jobs.
Bradford Council continues to support the regeneration of Bradford city centre through its award-winning City Centre Growth Zone scheme, which recently won an award at the Revo Gold Awards. The scheme offers funding for businesses investing in the city centre and interested businesses can contact the dedicated Invest in Bradford team for support and information (www.investinbradford.com).
Alex is currently working with Bradford Live and the NEC Group to secure the funding necessary to restore the Bradford Odeon in a £20m project to create the largest mid-sized concert venue in the country outside of London. The venue would attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to the district every year and provide a major boost to the Leeds City Region economy.
Whether in Economic Development, Planning or Transport, Alex and his teams strive to provide strong business support and to create the conditions necessary to see Bradford’s many entrepreneurs flourish. Only with successful businesses can we see a growing economy with good jobs and a great quality of life for everyone in Bradford.
